The Basilica of Notre Dame de Marceille in Limoux has closed its doors for many weeks. Conservators are in place and have to produce about three and a half months, the beauty of the Basilica again! The passage of time has weakened the venerable church, and also damaged. For over 120 years - except for routine maintenance - taken care not to much. A misery, if one considers the wealth of the Basilica bury! The extensive restoration work will include (figures probably not exhaustive):
- Frescos
- altarpieces
- re-gilding (eg stars of the heavens)
- Improvements to the lighting
- Extensive masonry and paving work on exterior and portal
- Processing gate
- stained glass church windows
The restorers will improve the entire paintings by block cracks and coatings attached to using natural pigments (mixed with acrylic) surfaces again to paint and try to produce all original colors again. The cost of the renovation will amount to about 400,000 € said. Financing for the whole matter by the state, the region, the department and the church. On Saturday, 16 April 2011, should then hold its inaugural exhibition.
