On a field in southwest England a treasure hunter has discovered 52 000 Roman coins. A collective money-box for a rainy day? Archaeologists believe rather that it was the religious sacrifice of a group. Just 30 inches deep had the British amateur archaeologist Dave Crisp dig to catch a glimpse of the find. Somerset on a field near Frome in the southern English county of the metal detector had struck the man. In a large, 160-pound clay vessel discovered Crisp then Roman coins stacked close to the 3rd Century - 52,000 pieces!
